Blair Med Spa in Houston offers a vast selection of facials. Clients may pay for a single treatment or get packages of three or six facials. Acne facials, for example, help people with acne or acne scars. They all include microdermabrasion, a skin treatment that uses a device with a diamond tip and a gentle vacuum to exfoliate the topmost layers of the skin and remove dead skin cells. Microdermabrasion also stimulates the production of elastin and collagen.
In the Skin Detoxifying Facial, the aesthetician will also apply a clay mask to the client’s face to unclog pores and remove excess oils. They will then apply a variety of serums to rejuvenate the skin and make any scars less visible.
Hydrating facials help people with the opposite problem: overly dry skin. Such skin can be dull, flaky, or patchy. A hydrating facial restores the moisture the skin needs. In the process, it can make fine lines and wrinkles less visible. The professional will exfoliate the topmost layer and then infuse various serums like beta and alpha hydroxy acids to add moisture to the skin and make it brighter. Fruit enzymes and Vitamin C can be mixed with anti-inflammatory in an aloe vera base to reduce redness in clients with conditions like rosacea. Exfoliation makes the skin more receptive to the various serums.
Anti-aging facials help make wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of age less visible. They include microdermabrasion and treatment with a Vitamin C mask that hydrates the skin, repairs collagen fibers, and removes toxins to make the skin more elastic and youthful.
Many facials include another treatments like microneedling, dermaplaning, or laser skin resurfacing.
What Does Nail Fungus Removal Involve?
Nail fungus is an infection caused by onychomycosis, and it can be notoriously difficult to treat.
The doctor at our med spa in Houston will use a laser system that emits two different wavelengths that will kill the fungus without harming the surrounding tissues. The treatment takes around 15 minutes, and the patient will not need any anesthetic. Most patients need two or three treatments to get the desired results.
Nail fungus removal won’t change the appearance of the patient’s nail, however; it just destroys the fungus. Toenails grow slowly, and it takes months for a new nail to grow in. Most patients will start to see undamaged new nail growing in about three months after treatment. It will take six to nine months for the damaged nail to be replaced by a healthy new nail.
What Does Teeth Whitening Involve?
Our med spa in Houston uses a process called Zoom! Teeth Whitening to whiten teeth. It is an outpatient procedure that takes around 45 minutes. It works by reducing discoloration and stains. Many patients find that it makes their teeth three to eight shades lighter. Zoom! Teeth Whitening only works on real teeth; it has no effect on dentures or restorations like veneers or crowns. In fact, many professionals advise patients to have their teeth whitened before getting restorations.
Our professional will cover the lips and gums to leave only the teeth exposed. They will apply a gel that is 25 percent hydrogen peroxide to the patient’s teeth. They will then use the Zoom Advanced Power Chairside Lamp to activate the gel and speed up the bleaching process.
How Do You Get Rid of Skin Tags?
A skin tag is a collection of blood vessels and collagen fibers surrounded by a layer of epidermal tissue that may be thicker or thinner than the surrounding skin. They can be bumps, or they might have stalks. Skin tags can be the same color as the surrounding skin, or they might be a bit darker. They are typically soft. While skin tags can appear anywhere, they are most commonly found on the eyelids, underarms, and neck.
Skin tags are harmless, but they can become irritated if they develop someplace where clothing or a body part constantly rubs against them.
The doctor at our med spa in Houston will use electrodesiccation, which is an outpatient procedure, to remove skin tags. The doctor will clean the treatment site and administer a numbing cream. They will use a device that is shaped like a pen and contains an electrode that emits an electric current. The electricity will dry out the skin tag and make it fall off.
If the patient has a lot of skin tags, they may need more than one treatment at our med spa.
What Are Spider Veins and How Do You Get Rid of Them?
Spider veins are small and dilated veins that are visible just beneath the skin. They can be red, blue, or purple and owe their name to their resemblance to a spider’s web. They are generally harmless, but many people find them unattractive.
Laser therapy is the main treatment for spider veins. It can be done on its own at our med spa in Houston or in conjunction with another procedure called sclerotherapy. Laser therapy has the large advantage of not involving incisions or needles.
The doctor will usually use the Nd:YAG laser system. It emits a laser that will target the hemoglobin in the blood while harmlessly going through the skin and other tissues. The hemoglobin absorbs the laser’s light and converts it into heat. That heat causes the vein to collapse and seal itself shut. The body will eventually absorb the diseased vein and reroute the blood through healthy veins.
Most patients will need two to six treatments at our med spa to get the desired results. They can usually resume their normal activities immediately after treatment.
Spider veins can sometimes indicate a more serious problem, so a vein specialist will examine the patient beforehand and have them undergo an ultrasound to determine if they have any conditions affecting larger and deeper veins.
The patient should avoid sun exposure or tanning for at least three weeks before treatment, for tanned skin will make the treatment less effective. They should also stop smoking at least two weeks before treatment, for smoking inhibits healing and can increase the risk of complications. The patient should also stop taking blood-thinners, non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), dietary supplements, and anything else that can increase bleeding.
What Is Ultrasonic Cavitation?
Ultrasonic Cavitation is a type of body contouring available at our med spa in Houston. As such, it is a non-invasive alternative to liposuction. It can be used on many parts of the body including the following:
The doctor will use a handheld device that emits concentrated sonic energy that can reach the deeper layers of the skin. There, it causes fat cells to break apart in their components, fatty acids, and glycerol. The body will use the glycerol for energy and send the fatty acids to the liver to eventually be excreted.
The sonic energy can also make the deeper layers of the skin thicker and thus reduce wrinkles. It will also strengthen and stimulate the collagen fibers in the skin. The patient should drink lots of water before and after treatment to help the body expel the fatty acids. They should also exercise or take brisk walks for at least three days after treatment for the same reason.
Depending on the area being treated, a single session takes between 30 and 90 minutes. Most patients will need six to 12 treatments, and they will start to see results within a few weeks.
What Is Lipo Laser?
Lipo Laser is a minimally-invasive type of body contouring, and it can be used on many parts of the body, including the chin. It can be done on its own or along with radiofrequency skin tightening or ultrasonic cavitation.
The doctor will administer an injection containing a saline solution that will constrict the veins and includes an anesthetic to numb the treatment area. The solution will also make the fat cells swell up.
The doctor will strap paddles that emit the lasers to the body part being treated. The laser will penetrate the skin without harm to reach the fat cells. It will then cause the fat cells to break down into their components.
After making an incision, the doctor will insert a cannula attached to suction that will vacuum out the destroyed fat cells. Most patients need five or six treatments to get the desired results.
What Is Medical Massage?
Medical massage is also sometimes described as “outcome-based massage.” While traditional massage is typically used to help a client relax, medical massage is used to help a client recover from a specific condition and to help ease their pain. Medical massage is always administered by a certified massage therapist.
Examples of conditions that can be treated through medical massage include the following:
• Sports injuries
• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Work-related injuries
• Neck and back pain
There are many different types of medical massage, and the therapist will choose the type they believe will be most helpful to the patient.
The patient will typically strip down to their underwear and lie on a table. The therapist will provide them with a towel or blanket so they can cover everything except the area being massaged. Massage therapists usually use oils or lotions during a massage; if the patient has allergies, they should tell the therapist beforehand.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as “collagen induction therapy” is a treatment used to stimulate collagen production in order to reduce wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, and discoloration. It works through “controlled wounding,” or deliberately inflicting a very minor injury to stimulate the body’s healing processes to make new skin and more collagen.
Before starting treatment, the doctor will apply an anesthetic cream to the patient’s skin to keep them comfortable. The doctor will use a handheld device containing many tiny and superfine needles called a derma roller that will puncture the treatment area. The treatment usually takes around half an hour.
After treatment, the patient’s skin will be red, as if they had a sunburn. A day or two later, the old skin will start to peel off as the new skin replace it. The patient will generally start to see the effects of the treatment about a week later.
